Detroit 450 Supercross Results 2014

Yoshimura Suzuki’s James Stewart took the 450 SX checkers in Detroit, beating out second-place finisher Ryan Villopoto of Monster Energy Kawasaki by almost 2 seconds. Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey rounded out the podium.

GEICO Honda’s Cole Seely flew off the start to take the holeshot, followed closely by Stewart and Villopoto and Discount Tire’s Dean Wilson. Dungey slotted into fifth and his teammate, Ken Roczen, settled into eighth. Roczen hardly had a chance to fire the engine before he faced bike issues that put him at the back of the pack once resolved.

Stewart slipped by Seely after the opening lap and soon after RV passed Seely as well. The Honda ace had a tough night, slipping down the ranks as the night continued, eventually crossing the line in 15th.

Bubba remained strong out front and though RV tried to close the gap he was unable to catch the Suzuki ace before the end.

“The track was slippery tonight, so it was easy to put your bike on the ground,” said Stewart. “I pulled a nice gap in the middle of the race, but I let it go as time went on. It has been a while since I have raced here in Detroit, and it was an awesome night.”

Dungey managed to take third-place mid-way through the contest, where he’d hold steady to the end.

BTO Sports’ Andrew Short finished in 4th followed by Team Muscle Milk Honda’s Justin Barcia in fifth and RCH Suzuki’s Broc Tickle in sixth.

Villopoto retains the points lead, 30 points ahead of Dungey in second. Stewart is third an additional 19 points back. Roczen sits in 4th followed by JGRMX’s Justin Brayton in fifth.
