Atlanta II 450 Supercross Results 2015

Red Bull KTM’s Ryan Dungey scored his third win of the year at Atlanta II. GEICO Honda’s Eli Tomac crossed the line in second followed by Team Honda’s Trey Canard in third.

There was a spectacular early battle at the front of the pack, with riders trailing JGRMX’s Weston Peick after the Yamaha rider nabbed the holeshot and early lead. 22 Motorsports’ Chad Reed was up in second with Dungey in third, Tomac in 4th and RCH Racing’s Broc Tickle in fifth.

On Lap 2, Reed’s hopes of a second consecutive win were squashed when trouble coming out of a turn sent him into the blocks. He was able to get himself righted quickly, but dropped a fair distance back in the ranks. Further back, Canard had moved ahead of Tickle, so it was Dungey, Tomac and Canard in second through 4th entering Lap 3.

Peick maintained his position out front, but Dungey was closing up, reaching the Yamaha’s rear tire by Lap 5. Tomac and Canard battled fiercely for third position and lost some ground on Dungey during the fight. Once the KTM ace had reached Peick, however, the 2 Honda riders were able to close up as Dungey looked for a way past.

On Lap 6, Dungey found his line and made a pass on Peick stick. From there, Dungey started to pull away from the field as Peick worked to defend against Tomac and Canard. By Lap 8, Tomac had found his way past the Yamaha followed soon after by Canard.

Dungey, Tomac and Canard held position in the top 3 during the latter stages of the race. While Peick dropped back in the field. Tickle was determined to improve his position and on Lap 10 made the move on Peick fo 4th. Rockstar Husqvarna’s Jason Anderson was just behind and proved to be a big factor in Peick’s night, the Husky rider botching a corner and running into Peick’s exit line, bringing both riders to the ground.

This allowed a number of riders to move up the leaderboard, headed by Yoshimura Suzuki’s Blake Baggett, who would end the night in fifth. 22 Motorsports’ Josh Grant and Reed were in close quarters during the final stages, with Grant finishing in sixth and Reed taking 6th. Tickle’s teammate, Ken Roczen, ended his night in eighth ahead of Anderson in ninth and Peick in 10th.

Dungey now has a 30 point lead over Canard, in second. Roczen sits third followed by Tomac in 4th and Anderson in fifth.

“It’s a happy day for our team with Marvin and I both taking wins,” said Dungey. “I was able to make some quick passes and my bike was flawless. I can’t thank my Red Bull KTM Team enough for all of their support.”
